A tour of the Batavia Coast Lights
provides a cross section of the historical development of lights on the West
Australian Coast, ranging from the remains of one of the original Bluff Point
leading light towers and keeper's cottage, now the headquarters for the
Geraldton Historical Society, through to the award winning Guilderton
Lighthouse made of specially shaped bricks in 1984, to the Light on a pole
version at Freshwater Point which services the local fishing fleet. The
remaining Obelisk at Dongara takes you back in time to when such a day mark
enabled safe navigation into the port.
