The Colin Bishop Collection

Colin Bishop was a Lighthouse Keeper from 1951 to 1972. Lighthouses were a part of his family life as he was born at Charles Point Light in 1922 to Ben and Agnes (Nester) Bishop while Ben was the Keeper there. Like other Keepers photography became something of a hobby, resulting in a large body of slides. Many of these slides were beginning to deteriorate and I was delighted to meet with Colin's daughter Jennifer Kaye and his widow Naomi (Noni) Bishop, to look through the slides, using their local knowledge and memory to name and date the Lights, the surroundings and the people within the photos. Over time I have scanned the slides and enhanced the images to counteract where possible the aging process of the slides. |

Various Lighthouse Tenders visited the lights at which Colin and his family lived over the years and were their means of transport between jobs.
Jennifer and her husband Norm Kaye are now actively involved in the restoration of the MV Cape Don at Balls Head in Sydney.
