The Stainless steel rocket shaped tower
above was errected in 1970 and replaced a previous light on a simple square
framework tower which was originally built in 1960. The same design has been
used for a smaller version of the rocket tower on Pelsaert Island within the
Houtman Abrohlos group of islands.
There has been substantial erosion and movement of the
sands within the reef area over the last 35 years.
