ABOUT POST POLIO NETWORK of WA Inc (PPNWA)
MISSION STATEMENT
The Post Polio Network of WA Inc is a self help group
of Polio survivors formed to improve the ability of members to function as independently
and with as few problems as possible as they reach a mature age. This is
achieved by provision of information on polio's late effects to both survivors
and health professionals; a free preliminary assessment clinic and local
research.
MANAGEMENT
PPNWA is a properly constituted charitable
organisation run by an annually elected Management Committee.
The
Office and Clinic are open from 9am-5pm weekdays. Appointments required
for clinic visits. No charge is made for appointments but donations
welcome. Any donations over $2.00 are tax deductible. No Government
assistance is currently available to PPNWA and all funding must be raised by
fund-raising donations. Meetings, social or public with guest speaker, are
arranged as required by membership. Country town clinics are undertaken
and available on request to the Clinic Nurse (Tessa).

CLINIC
The WA Polio Clinic is an in-house initiative
of the Post Polio Network of WA. Polio people can access the clinic by
appointment or phone consults. Each person visiting the clinic receives
individualised assessment and referral where appropriate. Everyone is
asked to complete the Polio Australasia Questionnaire. This provides
statistical information as well as the basis for clinical assessment and
advice. The clinic undertakes research as part of its clinical activities.
Recent research includes Carnitine Insufficiency in Post Polio (including
children and grandchildren of Post Polios), Alternatives to Contra-indicated
Prescribed Medications (eg cholesterol reducing drugs) and alleviation of
Muscle and Joint Pain (Magnesium, Boron, Gelatine, B12, etc).
